Fire Damages McCandless Apartments

No one is at home and no one is hurt in the fire above a Duncan Avenue business.

Fire heavily damaged an apartment located above the Window and Kitchen Specialist Store at 1667 Duncan Ave. in McCandless Tuesday morning.

Peebles Volunteer Deputy Fire Chief Paul Wain said no one was inside the apartment at the time and no one was hurt.

"Basically smoke was coming out of the whole second floor, three sides of the building, when we arrived," said Wain. "With our tanker, we got it knocked down pretty quickly."

Wain said it appeared the fire started in the vicinity of a fireplace.

The McCandless and Allegheny County fire marshals are investigating the cause.
