How Will Sequestration Budget Cuts Impact North Allegheny Communities, Schools?
Even if the federal cuts are enacted, the full effects would not be felt immediately.

Without an agreement with congress, President Obama is expected today to order the much-talked-about "sequestration," essentially budget cuts totaling $1.2 trillion from defense and non-defense spending over the next ten years.Â
Obama predicts the cuts will result in hundreds of thousands of lost jobs, crippling losses for the nation's public education system, defense cuts that would leave the country unprepared for future military engagements, and a number of day-to-day inconveniences, like long lines at the airport and the shuttering of some public parks, CBS News reports.Â
Any talk of cutting education funding naturally gets the attention of local school districts, but Joy Ed, Director of Communications and Development for the North Allegheny School District, says it's simply too early to predict what will happen.

"At this time, the District does not know what impact this would or could have," she said in a statement. "Some estimates have been posed, but without definitive facts and/or numbers, we cannot respond at this time."
The news is less speculative for McCandless. Spokeswoman Maria Costanza said that to the best of her knowledge, none of the proposed federal cutbacks will have any direct impact the McCandless municipal budget.Â
