North Allegheny High School Students Recognized as Regional Scholastic Writing Award Winners
Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized more than 13 million students and made available over $25 million in scholarships.

The North Allegheny School District proudly announces that thirteen North Allegheny students have been recognized in the 2013 Scholastic Writing Awards for Allegheny County.
Four NA Senior High School ‘Gold Key’ winners will advance to the National Scholastic Writing Awards competition in New York. They are:
- Lily Zhang (Senior Writing Portfolio)
- Surabhi Beriwal (Poetry) – “And Not A Word Was Spoken”
- Natalie Lewis (Poetry) – “The Old Willow Tree” and “Adelane”
- Ian Peck (Poetry) – “The Maelstrom”
The following three seniors earned ‘Silver Keys’ for their writing submissions:

- Elizabeth Bove (Short Story) – “Understood”
- Elizabeth George (Humor) – “The Beginning Of The End”
- Ian Peck (Poetry) – “The Fisherman” and “Between Two Fingers”
Honorable Mentions were garnered for various works by these NA High School students:
- Zain Mehdi (Personal Essay & Poetry)
- Elizabeth Bove (Personal Essay & Poetry)
- Surabhi Beriwal (Dramatic Script)
- Abby Dundon (Poetry)
- Natalie Lewis (Poetry)
- Maxwell Blechman (Poetry)
- Kristen Brady (Poetry)
- Kaitlyn Clem (Poetry)
- Elizabeth George (Poetry)
- Sean McCarthy (Poetry)
- Emma Munson (Poetry)
- Ian Peck (Poetry)
This year the Pittsburgh region received over 300 entries, spanning nine different genres of writing and nearly 1000 pages. Judges, comprised of school teachers, professional writers and university faculty, were very impressed with the volume and quality of the submissions.
