Raccoon Found In McCandless Tests Positive For Rabies

It's the seventh animal to test positive for rabies in Allegheny County this year.

McCANDLESS, PA — –The Allegheny County Health Department’s laboratory confirmed rabies in a raccoon that was recently brought to the facility after it was reported near Pine Creek Road and Oakridge Drive.

Thus far in 2020, there have been seven animals that have tested positive for rabies in Allegheny County: four raccoons, one bat, one cat and one groundhog.

The health department reminds people to watch for unusual behavior in animals. If any animal appears to be acting strange or becomes threatening, call your animal control service, the police or the Pennsylvania Game Commission immediately.
