UPMC Passavant's Fall 2022 Hospital Safety Grade Released

McCANDLESS, PA —Twelve Western Pennsylvania hospitals received an "A" grade for
preventing medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections in a nationwide hospital safety analysis. Seven received a "B" grade and five received a "C".

UPMC Passavant received an "A" grade.

No hospital received a "D" or "F," which would have meant patients are more likely to die a preventable death at those facilities than those graded higher.

The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization committed to improving the quality and safety of American health care, assesses nearly 3,000 hospitals nationwide twice a year. Leapfrog uses more than 30 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data sources.

Taken together, those performance measures produce a single letter grade representing a
hospital's overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.
