Winter Weather Advisory: Freezing Rain & Snow Predicted for North Allegheny Area

A wintry mix of precipitation is expected to begin Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory for the Pittsburgh region, including the North Allegheny are from 11 p.m. Sunday until 2 p.m. Monday.

A period of snow and freezing rain is expected overnight Sunday, before changing to all rain by Monday afternoon.

A winter weather advisory means that snow, sleet, or freezing rain will make travel difficult.

Here's a more detailed look at the forecast:

  • Sunday Night: Slight chance of snow before 1 a.m., then a chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., then rain, snow, and sleet likely after 5 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Northeast wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60-percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible.
  • Monday: Snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 11 a.m., then rain and sleet between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., then rain after 1 p.m. High near 43. Southeast wind 14 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90-percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.
