NORTHAMPTON, PA — The Northampton Township Police Department said they have investigated 30 accidents involving deer so far in 2021.

"There are probably several more that went unreported just by the sheer fact of seeing them along the roadside," police wrote online Thursday morning.

They cautioned residents that "the deer are everywhere," describing passing "countless deer" while commuting. This makes distracted driving and speeding in the township even more risky.

"Please be mindful and pay attention to the roadway instead of your cell phone while you are driving," police advised.

Stoneyford Road seems to be a hotspot for deer, but they're out in force town-wide. Residents are cautioned to keep their eyes on the road, especially around dawn and dusk when deer are most active.

Breeding season, also known as "the rut," which the Pennsylvania Game Commission says lands in the fall, can also be an especially lively time for deer.

According to a report in 2019, deer populations state-wide are either stable or increasing.

"Oh deer, this never fawned on me until today," Ryan Walter wrote in response to the police missive. "I had no eye-deer. Thank you!"
