5 Things You Can Do With the North Hills School District App

The app enables parents, students, community members, alumni and staff to quickly access information about the district without having access to a computer.

In January, the North Hills School District became the first school district in Allegheny County to launch a personalized and unique app for smartphones and tablets.

Since then, several other districts have followed suit.

The free app, short for application, is available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play by searching for NHSD. It is compatible with all iPhone, iPad and Android devices. A QR code also is available on the district's website for user convenience

With school starting in about a month, we thought parents and students might want to know five things you can do with this app:

  1. Find out the latest information on weather-related delays and cancellations.
  2. Get the latest district news via push notifications.
  3. Check the lunch menu.
  4. Access ProgressBook to check a student's latest grades
  5. Search the sports/activity calendar by individual school by sport.
"Nearly 93 percent of Americans now utilize their smart-phones and tablets to access important news and information. For us, creating a personalized app to reach those engaged and interested users was a logical step in the district's efforts to maximize communication efforts between North Hills School District and our community," said North Hills School District's Communications Coordinator Amanda Hartle.

"With the district app, North Hills School District families, alumni, community members and students can access the latest district events, news, photos and calendars immediately from the palm of their hand without having to access a computer."
