Allegheny County Marbles Program Coming to Shoppes at Northway

The free program is open to all children ages 14 and under.

The Allegheny County Marbles Program recently kicked off a new season and is making its next stop in the North Hills.

The free program will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 1 to Saturday, April 6 and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 7 at the Shoppes at Northway Mall. The mall is located at 8000 McKnight Road.

The marbles program is open to all children ages 14 and under, including novices. Children will learn how to play marbles and get to compete in a local match, according to organizers.

If you can't make it next week, the program is returning to the area from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 14 at the North Park Ice Skating Facility, second Floor on Pearce Mill Road.

Local winners will be qualified to enter the Allegheny County Championship taking place May 30 through June 1 in the courthouse courtyard. Regional champions will then have a chance at entering the National Marbles Championship in Wildwood, NJ.

All local winners will receive a County Champion T-shirt.

In 2008, a national champion hailed from Allegheny County for the fifth consecutive year,  the first time in 33 years that both the boys and girls national champions were from the same location. Thirty-three years ago, both national winners were also from Allegheny County.
