Automatic Recount of All Races in the Nov. 8 Election Starts Monday

For most races, results are likely to remain unchanged. An error, if discovered, could have an impact on the outcome for the Ward 3 seat on the Ross Township Board of Commissioners.

An automatic recount of all races in Tuesday's municipal election will begin Monday, according to employees at the Allegheny County Elections Division.

The recount is expected to take three to four days. At the end of the recount, preliminary results will be posted by the division until they are certified.

For most races, results are likely to remain unchanged. A close margin in the Ward 3 race for the Ross Township Board of Commissioners, however, could mean a found error could affect the outcome.

Unofficial results on the Allegheny County Elections Division website put the vote totals for the race at 378 for Republican candidate John Sponcer and 367 for Incumbent and Democratic candidate Dan Kinross, a difference of 11 votes.

That's a few votes more than , at the time candidates and party officials gathered to watch results. As of about 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sponcer had a seven-vote lead with 369 votes to Kinross' 362.

Absentee ballots added to the final report of the night are responsible for the change in the vote count from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, according to employees at the election division. 

On Wednesday, and congratulated Sponcer on his win. 

Sponcer said he didn't want to bet on the close margin quite yet. 

"When the county finally sends a letter that says I won, then I'll know I've won," he said.
