
McCANDLESS, PA — Giant Eagle has issued a voluntarily recall of select ground beef items purchased on Saturday at its location in McIntyre Square Drive in Pittsburgh due to the potential presence of small plastic fragments.
The potentially impacted ground beef products include:
- Local Beef Ground Beef.
- Nature’s Basket Ground Beef, 90 percent lean, 10 percent fat.
- USDA Choice Market District Certified Angus Ground Sirloin, 90 percent lean, 10 -percent fat.
- USDA Choice Market District Certified Angus Ground Beef, 85 percent lean, 15 percent percent fat.
- USDA Choice Certified Angus Ground Round, 85 percent lean, 15 percent fat.
- Verified Angus Virtually Prime Ground Round 80 percent lean, 20 percent fat.
- Value Pack Ground Beef, 80 percent lean, 20 percent fat.
- Certified Angus Ground Beef, 80 percent lean, 20 percent fat.
- Certified Angus Virtually Prime Beef, 8 percent lean, 20 percent fat.
- USDA Choice Market District Certified Angus Ground Chuck, 80 percent lean, 20 percent fat.
- Ground Beef, 73 percent lean, 27 percent fat.
The recalled items were sold in the meat department of the McIntyre Square Drive Giant Eagle only. There have been no reports of illness associated with this recall to date.

In addition to this public communication regarding this recall, Giant Eagle initiated its consumer recall telephone notification process. The consumer recall process uses purchase data and consumer telephone numbers housed in the Giant Eagle advantage card database to alert those households that purchased the affected product and have updated telephone contact information in the database.
