How Will Sequestration Budget Cuts Impact North Hills Communities, Schools?
Even if the federal cuts are enacted, the full effects would not be felt immediately.

Without an agreement with congress, President Obama is expected today to order the much-talked-about "sequestration," essentially budget cuts totaling $1.2 trillion from defense and non-defense spending over the next ten years.
Obama predicts the cuts will result in hundreds of thousands of lost jobs, crippling losses for the nation's public education system, defense cuts that would leave the country unprepared for future military engagements, and a number of day-to-day inconveniences, like long lines at the airport and the shuttering of some public parks, CBS News reports.
Any talk of cutting education funding naturally gets the attention of local school districts, but Amanda Hartle, Communications Coordinator for the North Hills School District, says it's simply too early to predict what will happen.

"Currently, we know that it will not affect the 2012-13 budget," she said. "However, no one has made any determinations about how they will allocate any reductions in federal funding to individual schools. Given that information, at this time, we cannot speculate with any certainty how the sequestration cuts will affect us."
The news is less speculative for Ross Township. Manager Douglas Sample said that to the best of his knowledge, none of the proposed federal cutbacks will have any direct impact the Ross municipal budget.
