Longtime North Hills Restaurant Closes

A restaurant in the North Hills area that had been open for nearly three decades abruptly closed over the weekend.

McCANDLESS, PA — The North Hills Australian-themed Outback Steakhouse was one of 41 of the chain's that are being closed nationwide.

The restaurant on McKnight Road, which had been open for nearly three decades, closed over the weekend.

David Deno, CEO of Bloomin' Brands Inc., the Tampa-based company that owns the Outback chain, said this in a recent analysts call, according to Nation's Restaurant News:

“We periodically review our asset base and, in our latest review, we made the decision to close 41 underperforming locations. The majority of these restaurants were older assets with leases from the ‘90s and early 2000s."

Outback now has two remaining Pittsburgh area locations: in Coraopolis and Monroeville.

Bloomin' Brands also operates the Bonefish Grill, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar and the Carraba's Italian Grill chains.
