New North Hills Athletic/Activities Director Outlines Priorities
Dr. Kevin Deitrick takes over for longtime athletic/activities director Dan Cardone.

Thursday was the first day on the job for North Hills Athletics/Activities director Dr. Kevin Deitrick, a job he clearly expects to love.
“I have two passions — kids and athletics,” Deitrick told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “So I think I'm one of the luckiest guys in the world.”
Deitrick had served as assistant director for student services in the Duquesne University athletic department where he was responsible for overseeing various Division I teams including basketball, football, baseball, tennis and golf. He also teaches history courses as an adjunct professor in the university’s liberal arts department.
“But I wanted to get back into administration,” Deitrick told the Trib. “I'm very excited to get back to the public-school end. It doesn't speak much to my social life, but kids are the best part of my day.”
Deitrick replaces Dan Cardone, who retired after more than 20 years as North Hills’ Director of Athletics and Activities on June 30.
“North Hills has such tradition and Dan Cardone is a legend around here, so hopefully I can pick his brain some and be a sponge,” Deitrick told the paper.
His first priority is getting to know all of the coaches, athletes and faculty. But that's not all.
“I want to get to know the community, get to know the boosters, get to know the parents, and really, just get involved,” he told the Trib. “Athletics can be a great rallying cry for the whole community. ... One thing I've always said is athletics always goes beyond high school walls."
