North Hills Indians Ready for New Season, New Head Coach, New Uniforms

The North Hills Varsity football team opens their season on the road against Penn-Trafford.

North Hills opens the new season with a new head coach, but he's no stranger to the program.

Pat Carey takes over for long-time head coach Jack McCurry, who retired in January. Carey had been the Indians' assistant head coach and defensive coordinator since 1998. He also served as the team's recruiting and scouting coordinator and parent liaison.

Also new this season, new uniforms.

Gone are the white helmets with "Indians" script that McCurry used for decades. They will be replaced by red helmets with "Indians" script, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported

The old-style jerseys with stripes down the shoulders and sleeves will give way to new uniforms that are red, white and gray.

Carey told the Post Gazette he's not trying to erase North Hills tradition.

"We're not trying to get rid of the past. We wanted to keep some of the tradition," he told the PG. "The new look is just kind of a trend a lot of people are going to. I don't get as excited about this stuff, but the kids get a little excited about the new look and uniforms. I thought maybe the timing was right and it maybe would be a good time to give us a little new look."
