North Park Lake Fills to Top; Irwin Run Boat Launch Opens

has been filled to capacity and is flowing over the spillway at the intersection of Babcock Boulevard and Pearce Mill Road, according to the Allegheny County Parks and Public Works departments.

As a result, the dam’s drainage culvert, which had been ensuring a continuous flow of water into Pine Creek, has been closed.

The parks department also announced the opening of the refurbished Irwin Run boat launch, which is on Babcock Boulevard just north of Pearce Mill Road.

The boat launch is free for public use and open from dawn to dusk daily. Only non-motorized boats are permitted on North Park Lake.

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission has stocked the lake with warm-water fingerlings, such as largemouth bass, channel catfish and panfish. Trout stocking will resume in the spring.

Venture Outdoors soon will begin daily boat rentals at the North Park Lake Boathouse. In the meantime, Venture Outdoors has scheduled the following special paddle events at the boathouse:
