Ready, Set, Go! Northland Library Offers Hamster Ball Derby
No wagering is allowed when around a dozen hamsters compete in the 2011 Hamster Ball Derby.
Hamster ball derbies are occasionally held at the . Tuesday's derby brought out about a dozen hamster competitors.
"We do it because it's fun," said organizer Jeanne Bondi.
The derby honored Dewey, the library's official hamster and one of its library's most popular "employees," Bondi said.

Tuesday's winner, 5-year-old Gabrielle Sole, received her hamster, Yum Yum, as a birthday gift two weeks ago.
