Pittsburgh HOV Lanes Closed Indefinitely

PennDOT has closed the I279/I579 HOV lanes indefinitely for safety reasons.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The I279/I579 HOV lanes are closed indefinitely after PennDOT inspectors discovered significant deterioration of a concrete column that supports a ramp over Route 28.

PennDOT determined the closure of the I-579 HOV lane is necessary until a permanent repair can be made. A temporary support structure will be installed which requires a long-term single-lane restriction on northbound Route 28. Additional lane restrictions on southbound Route 28 may occur.

Ramp access to the Chestnut Street and I-279 North/East Ohio Street exits will be maintained.
