Ross Commissioners Approve Floating Fountain for Evergreen Park

The vote was one of 5 actions taken by Ross Township commissioners.

Ross Township commissioners took a number of actions during their regular business meeting Monday night.

1. Floating Fountain

In an 8-0 vote, the commissioners approved paying Fischer Landscaping $11,229 to install an aerating, floating fountain and electrical service at Frank Zotter pond, located at Evergreen Community Park. The pond is the site of the township's popular, annual summer fishing tournament. The fountain is designed to be decorative, but will also circulate more oxygen into the water and prevent fish from dying off late in the summer, according to Public Works director Mike Funk.

2. Dance Studio

In an 8-0 vote, the commissioners approved plans to move the The Dance Explosion Arts Center from its current location at 2014 Babcock Boulevard to 5505 Babcock Boulevard, next to the Northway Car Wash. The plans say most of site improvements will occur on the inside of the building. There will be additional lighting, landscaping, and updated signage.

3. Home Demolition

In an 8-0 vote, the commissioner awarded a bid to Five Star construction of Cranberry for $16,000 for the demolition of homes at 578 Cyrano Avenue and 814 Quaill Avenue. The homes were scheduled for demolition more than a year ago, but paperwork, and a lack of bids delayed the process. Ross pays 15-percent of the demolition costs, the rest comes from a federal community block grant, administered by Allegheny County, according to township manager Doug Sample.

4. Stoke's Grill Liquor License

In an 8-0 vote, the commissioners approved the transfer of a liquor license from the borough of Tarentum to Stoke's Grill, located at 4771 McKnight Road.

5. Used Vehicle Sales

In an 8-0 vote, the commissioners approved the sale of more than a dozen used vehicles and equipment to highest bidders.
