Shoppes at Northway Update: Northway Shoes & Repair Expanding
The family owned shop has been a fixture in the mall for 35 years.
Amidst the mostly barren storefronts on the lower level of the Shoppes at Northway is a beacon of activity, carpenters and drywall finishers are working on an expansion to Northway Shoes and Repair. The family owned business, 35-years-old, is adding the space previously occupied by Verizon Wireless.
“We just grew out of our room," said owner Tony DeMarco. "We need more to stock, more room to display.”
While many of the mall's stores have come and gone over the years, DeMarco's business has steadily grown.

“We keep growing every year. Our work boot selection is really is our bread and butter. There’s really on one else in the North Hills that has a work boot selection like us," said Tony's son Danny. "Red Wing is our most popular, our number one brand. But we also do Timberland Pro, Carolina, Rocky and Wolverines.
Now, the DeMarcos want to start selling heavy-duty work clothes.

"We will soon be carrying Carhartt, Dickies, Filson, popular brands that make work clothes,” said Danny.
While son Danny concentrate on growing the retail business, his father will continue to repair boots and shoes.
"This is my bread and butter for 35 years," Tony said. "I learned the trade from by brother-in-law."
Both Tony and Danny are excited about the plans to redevelop the mall.
"We intend on staying here, and hopefully if the can make this better and attract more people, it’s all the better," said Danny. "We’re lucky enough that our business has survived and done well with it being a slower mall. We’re more of a destination type store, so we don't depend on the traffic too much. People hear about us and come straight to us."
