St. Teresa of Avila Needs Votes in Online Contest for $50,000 Earmarked for Science

Votes can be cast once a day online or via text through December 9. The program that receives the highest number of votes will be awarded the $50,000 grand prize.

is competing for a $50,000 grant as part of the“Power a Bright Future” program, created by The Clorox Company. This new grant program funds new or ongoing initiatives that allow children to play, create, and explore.

North Hills community members are asked to support the school by submitting votes until the Dec. 9 deadline. Anyone aged 13 and up can vote two times per day — once online and once by text message. 

The program that receives the highest number of votes will be awarded the $50,000 grand-prize grant, and the next top vote-getters in the Play, Create, and Explore categories respectively will each be awarded a $25,000 grant.

Clorox’s judging panel will select one additional school to win a $25,000 judge’s choice grant.

St. Teresa School is nominated in the “Explore” category. Grant money would be used to renovate the school’s upper elementary science lab, enabling students to explore life sciences, earth science, space, and technology. Students will be able to perform a wider variety of experiments and learn by doing. Funding would allow the purchase of lab equipment and furniture, computers, and related scientific materials for grades six through eight.

Community members can vote for St. Teresa School in one of two ways:

1. Online (once per day) at: http://patch.com/bvauI  or by visiting www.PowerABrightFuture.com, clicking on "Nominees," and typing "Teresa" into the keyword search feature. 

2. By text (oncer per day): Text “clorox8099” to 44144. Standard text messaging rates apply.

Founded in 1906, St. Teresa of Avila School provides a Catholic education for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
