Star Parties, Movie in the Park, Regatta Add Up to Fun
Low-cost activities, including a Safety Day event, await North Hills families this weekend.

Friday, Aug. 5 and Saturday, Aug. 6
Star Party at Deer Lakes Park at the Wagman Observatory
Starts: At sunset, both nights.
Bring your telescopes and binoculars to the Wagman Observatory — although equipment is not necessary to enjoy this free, outdoor event. The two large permanent telescopes at each observatory are open, with knowledgeable volunteers available to answer questions and adjust the telescopes.
Several times throughout the evening, volunteers will present a guided tour of the sky, providing an introduction to the constellations and brighter stars.
Bring your own food and beverages. The volunteers ask that you turn off your headlights when you enter the observatory grounds.
Movies in the Park at Franklin Park
Time: Dusk (about 9 p.m.)
Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be shown at the Blueberry Hill Park Football Field in Franklin Park. Refreshments will be sold.
The film is about a sixth-grade student who cracks jokes. It features Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron and Rachael Harris.
Saturday, Aug. 6
Eden Christian Academy Holds Community Safety Day
Time: Noon - 4 p.m.
A free, all-ages event, Community Safety Day is being held at the Berkeley Hills campus of Eden Christian Academy at 206 Seibert Road, from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 6.
This event is open to anyone in the Pittsburgh area and willl promote safety education and safety awareness. The local fire, police and EMS departments will be there with a team and equipment.
There also will be refreshments and games.
Saturday, Aug. 6 and Sunday, Aug. 7
Lake Arthur Regatta at Moraine State Park
Time: 10 a.m. - 9:30 p.m., both days
Bring the family and enjoy all of the activities at The 13th Annual Regatta at Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park. This year's regatta is bigger and better than ever, with water, air, land & children's events and activities, entertainment, food and fun for everyone.
