The Chamber of Commerce Inc. Switches Up Name, Enhances Direction

The Chamber of Commerce Inc. is no more.

Instead, the business chamber, which serves north Pittsburgh, northern Allegheny County, the Cranberry area and parts of Beaver County, has switched its name to the Pittsburgh North Regional Chamber. 

"Our thriving business corridors are connecting a strong network of opportunity, and we, your Chamber, are evolving to keep pace with the needs of that business network," Becky Morella, Chamber board chair, told 150 members at a special naming ceremony held Friday. 

"That's why we are here today: To reflect and remember. To engage and connect. To recognize the growth of our business network."

Chamber officials say the name change is a reflection of a strategic direction to enhance the business footprint of the organization. 

"Companies throughout the Pittsburgh North region invest in the business community through their Chamber membership," said Rebecca Martin, CCE, Chamber President and CEO. 

"They want to be successful, to be involved and to make a difference. As a Chamber of Commerce with a regional scope, we are committed to providing opportunities that help to enhance the economic prosperity of business corridors throughout western Pennsylvania."

The chamber was launched in January 2010 after the merger of the former Cranberry Area Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Allegheny Chamber of Commerce. Today, the organization has 1,100 members.

"I was attracted to the Chamber because they are involved in making the community better as a whole," said Ron Esser, owner of Moondog's, which is located in Blawnox. "As a business man and resident of the Pittsburgh North region, that was a buying signal for me."
