West View Police Blotter: May 27 - 29, 2011

Sunday, May 29

A 68-year-old man was reported to be intoxicated at 2:52 p.m. outside the in the 1300 block of West Liberty Avenue. An officer arrived and found the man sitting on the curb with an open case of beer next to him and one empty can lying on the curb. Police said the officer told the man he was not permitted to have open containers. A friend took the man home. 

Saturday, May 28

A 54-year-old man was reported to be drunk at 11:59 p.m. inside the in West View Plaza, 900 block of West View Drive. An officer arrived and gave the man an oral trespass warning. The man left Kmart and took the bus out of West View Plaza. 

Two men were reported to be fighting over a bag of cement taken from a driveway in the 200 block of Montclair Avenue at 4:17 p.m. The man who had taken the bag used it to build a dam in his yard to prevent rain from washing away steps he had just poured. He offered to pay for the bag. By the time the officer left, police said, both men had calmed down and didn't want to pursue the matter further.

A neighbor in the 100 block of Stanford Avenue reported at 4:59 p.m. that three dogs had been barking for 45 minutes. An officer spoke with the animals' owner, who said he would put them in the house. 

Police cited a 40-year-old man for trespassing after he took a rubber tree plant from the porch of a house in the 400 block of Perry Highway at 10:13 p.m.

Friday, May 27

An alarm system reported a break-in at 2:07 a.m. at the in the 800 block of West View Park Drive. An officer found a glass pane broken in the garage area. A manager arrived and said nothing appeared to be missing. Coins were still in the register. 

A loud party was reported at 2:42 a.m. in the 20 block of Waverly Avenue. An officer told the party members it was time to call it a night and take it inside. They complied. 

A woman in the 200 block of Montclair Avenue reported at 12:39 p.m. that she received telephone messages from representatives of different companies who had personal information about her.

A woman in the 60 block of Hemstead Avenue reported at 5:17 p.m. that she received a phone message from a man who told her she was past due on a loan she didn't have. An officer advised her it was a scam and not to give out any information. 

An officer told a 21-year-old woman to go home at 7:51 p.m. after spotting her while she was apparently drunk at the corner of Harvard and Center avenues.

Someone reported seeing a person prying open a door with a crow bar near the 1300 block of Center Avenue at 10:51 p.m. An officer found that a copper downspout had been pried off an apartment building in the 20 block of Standford Avenue. Police did not find the person responsible.
