West View Police Blotter: May 30 - June 7, 2011

Tuesday, June 7

Police found a group sitting around a fire at 11:40 p.m. while responding to a report of a loud party near Jamaica Avenue and Montclair Avenue. Officers advised them of the ordinance restricting open burning and asked them to go inside. They complied.  

A 50-year-old man reported a car hit his car in his driveway in the 200 block of Cornell Avenue at 9 a.m.

Monday, June 6

Police cited a 51-year-old man for public intoxication at 11:14 a.m. after they said he made lewd gestures and pulled down his pants in front of a bus driver in the 800 block of West View Park Drive, near the .

Officers cited a 39-year-old man for public intoxication and sent him home after finding him asleep in the middle of Center Avenue, near Frankfort Avenue at 1:35 a.m.

Sunday, June 5

A 25-year-old man was cited for disorderly conduct at 12:30 p.m. after police said they found him with a small amount of marijuana during a traffic stop in the 400 block of Highland Avenue. 

A 74-year-old man in the 20 block of Wellington Drive reported at 10:37 a.m. that a copper downspout valued at $300 was missing from his house. He wasn't sure when it had been taken.

Saturday, June 4

A 68-year-old woman in the 20 block of Wellington Drive reported at 2:01 p.m. that a copper downspout on her house was missing. She did not know when it was taken. 

Friday, June 3 

An 80-year-old man reported a hit-and-run crash at 7:59 p.m. in the VFW parking lot at 386 Perry Highway. No injuries were reported. 

A 64-year-old man reported at 4:56 p.m. that a book of checks had been taken from his home near the intersection of Vassar Avenue and Stanford Avenue and used at the branch in Oliver Plaza, Downtown.

An 80-year-old man reported that a golf ball struck his vehicle at 4:04 p.m. while he was driving on Highland Avenue near Cornell Avenue. The ball, which he said came from the direction of the , broke his rear window.

Thursday, June 2

A 30-year-old man reported at 8:38 p.m. that another male was shining a laser pointer at his home in the 900 block of Center Avenue. Police searched the area but did not find the man. 

Wednesday, June 1

West View police issued 50 citations from 6 to 10 p.m. while conducting a "Click It or Ticket" speed detail near the 300 block of Perry Highway. 

Police found a 29-year-old man asleep at a bus stop near at 6:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of West View Park Drive. The man was taken to Allegheny General Hospital after a pipe and a syringe were seized from his pockets. Charges are pending. 

A 40-year-old woman was cited for disorderly conduct at 10:07 a.m. at the Magisterial District Court at 439 Perry Highway after police said she brought a marijuana pipe with her to a hearing on a prior offense. 

A woman was transported to Allegheny General Hospital to be treated for a broken arm after a van hit her while it was backing up in the parking lot in the 1000 block of West View Park Drive at 10:09 a.m. The cargo van was driven by a 21-year-old female transporting seniors to appointments. Police issued no citations. 

A 31-year-old man reported at 12:30 a.m. that his purple-and-green comforter valued at $50 was missing from a dryer at Wash Bored Laundromat in the 600 block of Center Avenue. 

Tuesday, May 31

A hit-and-run accident was reported at 6:32 p.m. near Highland Avenue and Montclair Avenue while officers were there investigating an earlier accident there. No injuries were reported.

A two-vehicle accident at Highland Avenue and Montclair Avenue at 6:32 p.m. resulted in minor damage and no injuries.

A two-vehicle accident occurred at 7:48 a.m. near the intersection of Perry Highway and Highland Avenue. Both drivers told police they thought they had the green light. No injuries were reported, and both cars were towed.

Monday, May 30

Police said they cited a 19-year-old woman for driving under the influence because sh did not stop her van at a stop sign in the 200 block of Center Avenue at 11: 59 p.m.

A 47-year-old male sex offender was reported to be working in the area but had not updated the information on the state register. The man has since registered his status. No charges were filed. 

A 20-year-old man ran from a passenger van after spotting an officer at 4:15 p.m. near Rochester Road and Perry Highway. He stopped after the officer released Eddy, the K-9. Police said the man ran because he violated a protection order. He was detained and later released. 

Police calmed and sent away a man who caused a disturbance at 9:59 a.m. at the intersection of Perry Highway and Township Road because the road was closed for a parade and he was worried he would miss his bus.
