West View Voters Select Steele, Schell and Mikec for Borough Council

Candidates tallied unofficial results that each district provided for the West View races Tuesday at the West View Firemen's Banquet Hall.

Kim Steele, Barry Schell and Donald Mikec were re-elected Tuesday to the West View Borough Council, according to unofficial election tallies delivered to the candidates at the West View Firemen's Banquet Hall. 

"I'm happy to announce that the three incumbents, Barry Schell, Donald Mikec and myself, are back in," Steele told the crowd gathered at the hall election night. 

"Thank you to everyone," she said.

Steele garnered the most votes, with 869.

Schell received 865 votes; Mikec, 839.

Republican Alison Kilmartin received 505 votes, a good showing for her first time campaigning, the seasoned officials said. 

"This district is not as Democratic as people think," Steele said. "We're going to welcome Alison to be involved in the borough. We have a lot of boards and commissions. We need to get young people involved in the process." 

The total number of voters for the districts reporting the West View council race results was not available as of 9 p.m. 

Steele, 58, was elected to her first full term on the council. She was appointed in 2009 to fill a vacancy and was elected to finish out the term in 2010. 

She has lived in West View for 37 years, and she and her husband live in her grandparents' former home. They have four adult children. 

A legislative assistant to State Rep. Joe Markosek, Steele said she brings 20 years of experience working in state government to the council. 

Schell, 71, has lived in West View for 31 years. He and his wife of 50 years, Dolores, have four children and six grandchildren. The former director of building and grounds at , where he graduated in 1959, Schell is now retired.

Schell was elected Tuesday to his fourth term.

Mikec, 55, will serve his second term on the borough council. Before being elected to the seat in 2008, he spent six years on the West View Planning Commission. 

Mikec has lived in West View for 25 years. He grew up in Ross and has been a lifelong member of  in West View. He is a 1974 graduate of North Hills High School and a 1978 graduate of Duquesne University, where he received a degree in business.

His brother, David Mikec, serves on the . 

A former sales representative for Kraft Foods, Mikec said he brings his background in sales and business to the council. 

Kilmartin, 34, and her husband moved to West View in 2009. They have a 7 1/2-month-old daughter. An attorney for Jones Day, she specializes in civil litigation and is a graduate of Grove City College and Penn State University Law School
