Perkiomen Township Firefighters Honored For Heroic Actions During February '21 Fire

Perkiomen Fire Company officials recognized eight of their own for heroic actions during a fire back in February of this year.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY, PA — A group of local firefighters were recognized Monday night for their heroic actions during a residential fire that occurred back in late February of this year.

The eight Perkiomen Township volunteer firefighters were honored during an awards event at the December monthly meeting of the Perkiomen Township Fire Company.

Fire Company President Brad Bonner and Fire Chief John Barnshaw presented distinguished service medals to Firefighters Jeffrey Wynne, Aleksey Kononenko, Chief Engineer John Moran, Jr., and Junior Firefighter Patrick McCafferty for helping to rescue a handicapped resident during the house fire, which happened on Feb. 20 at a home on King Road.

Medals of valor were presented to Assistant Fire Chiefs Brian Debus and Kevin Motsavage, as well as Deputy Chief Stan Turtle and Firefighter Chris DiFerdinando.

The fire company said that the distinguished service medal is awarded to "persons who have performed acts of heroism," while the medal of valor is given out to "firefighters form performance above and beyond the call of duty at extreme personal risk and having been instrumental in rescuing and saving the life of another person."

According to the fire company, the residential fire came in around 2:20 p.m. back on Feb. 20 at a home in the Cranberry Estates neighborhood.

A previous report from the fire company says that the fire responders did an "outstanding job removing a victim from the second floor."
