EVERGREEN STUDENTS SET ARTISTIC MOOD AT POETRY CAFE
Students dressed the part of an artist with flowing scarves, sunglasses and beads, and shared poems they wrote that included poetic devices such as repetition and alliteration
Evergreen Elementary School third-graders transported parents and other guests back to the era of the Beatniks, during a Poetry Café held in Mrs. Kelly Voicheck’s classroom on June 7.
Students dressed the part of an artist with flowing scarves, sunglasses and beads, and shared poems they wrote that included poetic devices such as repetition and alliteration. They encouraged visitors to snap instead of applaud for each student’s performance, and turned down the lights to create a dim and theater-like setting.
The afternoon of poetry was capped off with an interpretation of “Street Music” by children's author Arnold Adolf. Students used maracas, tambourines and a plastic tub to create rhythm.
