Lower Frederick Police Chief Responds to Crime Concerns

Police Chief Paul Maxey offered some insight into safety in Lower Frederick Township during his report at the township’s December meeting.

Maxey reported that there were 144 incidents requiring police assistance, 21 of which were responded to by the Pennsylvania State Police, in the month of November.

When a resident asked about the makeup of the calls, Maxey said it widely varies.

“The makeup – it ranges – everything from animal complaints to domestics, thefts, traffic accidents – it runs the gamut.”

After the resident referenced a Perkiomen Valley Patch article regarding thefts in neighboring communities, Maxey responded with positive news for Lower Frederick.

“Theft is a traveling crime when it comes to our communities, and it goes up and down,” Maxey said. “Certainly the seasons have something to do with it – during warm times, we have more people out, more theft from vehicles.”

Maxey also said that, while burglary rates were up last year, cases are closed.

“We experienced a higher rate of burglaries this year,” Maxey said. “But we’ve made apprehensions in those cases as well.

“I would say, overall, this community in terms of this is a very safe area.”
