Multiple Fire Calls Draw Out Montco Volunteers On Same Day
The Trappe Fire Co. was kept busy Monday. The volunteer department recently received $1 million to help construct a new firehouse.

TRAPPE, PA — Volunteer firefighters in this central Montgomery County community were kept very busy on Monday when numerous calls came in for emergency services, two of the calls originating from the same building.
Monday started out with a call to the Trappe Fire Company No. 1 around 6 a.m. for a report of a burning odor and something on fire at the Flag Factory Lofts apartment complex on Fourth Avenue in Collegeville, the volunteer fire department stated on social media.
Trappe Fire Company members along with crews from Collegeville Fire Company and Perkiomen Township Fire Company's Engine 66 responded to the scene and were ultimately able to determine an appliance in one of the apartment's had caught fire but was extinguished by a second-floor smoke alarm.

The scene was cleared at about 7:30 a.m., the department said, but crews were once again called out to the same apartment complex just over two hours later when a fire alarm was activated at the site.
Firefighters, once back at the complex, determined it to be a false alarm, and attributed the issues to an activation of the fire alarm system that was being worked on following the previous call earlier that morning.

Fire crews from Trappe were then dispatched around lunchtime to a home on Bellmont Drive in Upper Providence Township for a report of a fire and smoke, the fire company stated.
Once at the home, volunteer firefighters were able to remove a burning pot from the home, extinguish the blaze and ventilate the area.
Another call came in later that evening, again in Upper Providence Township, this time for a report of a gas odor and possible leak inside a local residence.
The situation was placed under control and Trappe fire members were assisted by crews from the Black Rock Volunteer Fire Department Station A. and the Phoenixville Fire Department, which is located just across the Schuylkill River in neighboring Chester County.
Just this month, Patch reported that the Trappe Fire Company No. 1, an all-volunteer department, received a $1 million state grant to help with the construction of a brand-new firehouse.

The volunteer department, located in central Montgomery County, suffered a major tragedy earlier this year when its chief, Branden Sisca, was killed while on duty working his day job as a Pennsylvania State Trooper.
Sisca, 29, was struck and killed by a driver while he and another state trooper, Martin F. Mack, III, 33, also fatally injured, were attempting to help a stranded pedestrian along a portion of Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia.
Sisca and Mack had been assigned to a state police barracks in the city.
