Bomb Blast Injured PA Trooper Released From Hospital

The state trooper was one of five law enforcement personnel injured when a bomb placed for a training in Montco prematurely detonated.

SKIPPACK TOWNSHIP, PA — A Pennsylvania state trooper who suffered shrapnel wounds after a bomb that had been placed during a law enforcement training prematurely exploded has now been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The trooper is no longer hospitalized and will "continue to heal at home," a state police spokesman confirmed to Patch.

The name, rank and career length of the injured trooper, as well as what barracks or unit he is assigned to, was not immediately released by police.

The trooper was injured alongside three Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies and one FBI agent during a training incident on the grounds of the SCI Phoenix state prison complex in Skippack Township on Sept. 15.

Authorities have said that the bomb was placed as part of an explosives training scenario.

The bomb was intended to be a live explosive device, but it was not intended to detonate as soon as it did, officials previously stated.

An FBI spokeswoman previously told Patch that live explosive devices are used in trainings such as these to replicate real-life situations to better prepare law enforement who might have to handle similar matters in the course of their duties.

The other injured parties have since been released from the hospital and are said to be recovering from their injuries, all of which appeared to have been non-life-threatening.
