Federal Judge Rules That Perk Valley SD Must Continue Mandating Face Masks
U.S. District Judge Wendy Beetlestone granted a plaintiffs' preliminary injunction in a case challenging Perkiomen Valley mask policy.
PERKIOMEN VALLEY, PA — Students in the Perkiomen Valley School District must continue wearing face masks as a way to mitigate against COVID-19 after a federal judge on Monday sided with a class of plaintiffs suing the district over the school board's decision to rescind a universal masking policy.
U.S. District Judge Wendy Beetlestone granted a plaintiffs' request for a preliminary injunction in their case against the school district and its board of school directors.
Beetlestone had previously issued a temporary injunction in the matter, but that injunction was set to expire Tuesday.

The judge sided with the class of plaintiffs, unnamed special needs students who claimed that the mask-optional policy violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and left them unprotected against COVID-19.
The judge's order enjoins the school district from carrying out the mask-optional plan that had been voted on by the school board in both December and early January.
