Perkiomen Valley High School Students Recognized for Achievements in Sports and Arts
The swimming and diving team, student newspaper and the jazz band garnered awards.
The Perkiomen Valley School Board had a mini-mountain of plaques to go along with groups of students’ mountains of achievements.
Students and their families were present at the beginning of Monday night’s business meeting, as the board recognized the boys swimming and diving team and the staff of The Voice, the school paper.
The boys won their first-ever Pioneer Athletic Conference championship; credit is also given to coaches Jack Graham, Tom Komp, Brian Ziegler, Traci Fenstermacher and Kate Klinger. The recognized students are: Quentin Altemose, Brian Bashline, Joseph Bowman, Andrew Catlin, Andrew Corcoran, Colton Delman, Joshua DiJohn, James Hodgins, Sean Hodgins, Ian Jackson, Benjamin Kershner, Tyler King, Allen Koederitz, Luc Lawson, Connor Lyons, Isaiah Michener, John Meyers, Joshua Pearson, Ryan Pearson, William Swiss, Jaye Thompson, Cole Underwood, Seth Underwood and Michael Wieber.

Two organizations—Columbia Scholastic Press Association and Pennsylvania Student Press Association—honored The Voice with silver medals for work in the 2009-10 school year. Recognized current and former staffers are: Adrianna Rodriguez, Katherine Collier, Rachel Wolsky, Rebecca Bochnowicz, Hannah Toombs, Amelia Erikson, Jessica Morrow, Ellen Kim, Abigail Dove, Adam Rouan, Pat McGurk, Dale Kratz, Lauren Liacouras, Maddi Gray, Monica Fox, Aysia Woods, Will Weston, Katie Felix, Rachel-Paige Mumenthaler, Sean Gunning, Alyssa Marino, Michelle Tornetta, Chris Mullaney and Claire Mullaney. Faculty advisor Joe Tornambe was also thanked.
Some of the senior students were not present because they were on a field trip.

In other achievement news, during the superintendent’s report, Dr. Clifford Rogers announced that Perkiomen Valley High School’s Jazz Band netted honors at the American Division of the Cavalcade of Bands Jazz Championships this past weekend.
According to band director Dave Overholtzer, the band received a “superior” rating, was named the overall division champion, and also won for best trombone section. Student Harry Oehler won for best soloist.
