Revolutionary War Encampment at Skippack Historical Society
Annual event was postponed from last month due to rain.
George Washington's encampment is just a portion of Skippack Township's rich history. Area residents could be a part of that history this past weekend during the annual Revolutionary War Encampment at the Skippack Historical Society.
Visitors could stroll the grounds and check out the tents and tools used in the 18th century, enjoy freshly baked bread from a beehive oven in the summer kitchen and watch the 6th Pennsylvania Regiment's gun firing demonstration. The regiment's members recruited the youngest visitors for a demonstration, having them march "fire" toy guns and led them on a bayonet charge.
"Betsy Ross" was also on hand to discuss her work with the flag, and children and their parents received an education in the barn's one-room schoolhouse.
