
Bullets Over Bears in Women's Soccer
Gettysburg’s Molly Philips scored with just 3:42 remaining in regulation to give the Bullets (3-2, 1-0 Centennial) a 1-0 win over (2-4, 0-1 Centennial) in women’s soccer play Saturday night.
Philips scored on a shot toward the upper right corner as she drove along the end line. Ursinus, who held an 11-7 advantage on shots, got three shots from senior forward Kelly Boatwright (Riverton, N.J./Palmyra). Sophomore goalkeeper Kara DiJoseph (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) made three saves in the loss for Ursinus, who heads to Swarthmore on Wednesday.
Third Spot for Women's Cross Country Team
The Ursinus College women’s cross country team took third at the Cougar Classic hosted by Misericordia on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Stephanie Donatone (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was the top finisher for the Bears, taking ninth place with a mark of 26:40.83, followed by junior Jordan Kellogg (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) in 14th place at 27:38.13. Senior Michelle Tetla (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) was in 15th place with a mark of 27:42.44, with freshman Leah Mele (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) going 21st overall at 28:03.74. Senior Sabrina Cimerol (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) was 25th overall at 28:27.97, followed by senior Meghan McDermott (Yonkers, N.Y./Hackley School) in 26th place at 28:31.57. Freshman Chelsea Nemeth (Coplay, Pa./Parkland) was 27th overall at 28:42.53.

Three is Also the Magic Number for Men's Cross Country Team

More importantly, junior Sam Stortz (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) took first place in the event, crossing the line with a total time of 27:26.99.
Sophomore Jatin Narang (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) was fourth overall with a time of 27:58.69, followed by junior Mark Gapinski (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name) in 15th place at 29:01.66. Sophomore Charles Wacker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) took 20th overall with a time of 29:42.50, with senior Bogdan Lisachenko (Philadelphia, Pa./J.R. Masterson) crossing the line at 29:44.82 in 21st place. Senior Adam Dicaprio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) finished with a mark of 29:45.22 in 22nd, followed by junior Amos Almy (Charleston, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) with a mark of 29:47.40 in 23rd place.
Volleyball Loss for Ursinus
Gettysburg’s Virginia Hogan tallied 13 kills as the Bullets (8-3, 1-0 Centennial) swept Ursinus (7-4, 0-1 Centennial) 3-0 in volleyball action on Saturday afternoon.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-20, 25-22. For Ursinus, junior middle blocker Kristin Hanratty (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and senior outside hitter Kim Goldberg (Sarasota, Fla/.Out of Door Academy) each had seven kills, with senior setter Elizabeth Roth (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) adding in six. Freshman setter Gina Powers (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) had 14 assists, while Roth pitched in ten. Freshman libero Leah Masiello (New Castle, Del./St. Elizabeth’s) had 18 digs.
The first set saw Ursinus take an early lead at 5-3 on a kill by Hanratty. After Gettysburg took lead, Ursinus would rally from an 11-8 deficit with five straight points, highlighted by two service aces from Hanratty. The Bullets would take the lead for good in the first set at 18-17 on a kill by Kelly Milione. In the second set, Ursinus trailed early but tied the score at 8-all on a Gettysburg attack error. The Bullets however would outscore Ursinus 9-2 to pull away. In the final set, Ursinus came back from a six-point deficit early to tie it at 16-all on an ace by Roth.
Ursinus heads to Swarthmore Wednesday.
Field Hockey Teams Nets Win
Ursinus junior forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven) scored two goals, with three other Bears finding the back of the cage as Ursinus (5-0, 2-0 Centennial) blanked Gettysburg (2-2, 0-1 Centennial) 5-0 on Saturday afternoon in field hockey action at Eleanor Frost Snell Field.
Senior forward Corinne Freeman (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vienney), senior defender Nicole Hanby (Bear, Del./William Penn) and senior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) also scored as Ursinus, ranked third in the country, won its second straight home matchup.
Bitterly scored the game-winner five minutes in as she worked the ball around Bullet goalkeeper Megan Feeg for the opening score of the game. Freeman added in the second goal at 12:42, followed by Hanby’s goal at 15:35 on an assist by Freeman for only scoring in the first half.
In the second half, Thren scored at 47 minutes even to push the lead to 4-0, with Bitterly adding in her second goal at 58:37 on an assist by junior midfielder Julie Pilla (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic). Freshman goalkeeper Paige McElhenny (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) made four saves to record her first win of the season.
Ursinus will travel to Swarthmore on Wednesday.
