UPPER PERKIOMEN VALLEY, PA — The Verizon Foundation has announced that its 2021 Verizon Grant goes to the Upper Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce, with the $10,000 donation being used to help defray the costs of a community plan.

The chamber of commerce recently received the check to go toward its 'PerkUp' plan, which is a comprehensive community and economic development plan designed to broadly address the needs of the Upper Perkiomen Valley, and which is supported by the chamber through "leadership and goals," according to the office of Sen. Bob Mensch, R-24, which jointly announced the news along with State Rep. Milou Mackenzi, a fellow Republican representing parts of Montgomery, Lehigh and Northampton Counties.

In addition to the legislators, also on hand for the check presentation, which took place in Harrisburg, were Frank Buzydlowski, Verizon Government Relations Director, and Allison Louis, who is the director of the Upper Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce.

According to the Upper Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce, 'PerkUp' began in the "stuttering economy of 2008 with business leaders and local legislators asking the question, 'How might we shape the future of our community,'" the organization states on its website.

The group says that 'PerkUp' is now a separate nonprofit corporation, but it continues to be supported by the chamber.
