MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A veteran Cheltenham Township police officer and volunteer firefighter with the Perkiomen Township Fire Company can now add author to his long list of accomplishments.

Dan Schaefer, who works by day as a police sergeant in eastern Montgomery County and also volunteers in the fire services, recently revealed that he published a new book titled The Church Emergency Handbook: All-Hazards Emergency Management for Houses of Worship.

Schaefer was featured in Patch recently because he was chosen as the new protective services instructor at the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology beginning with the 2022-23 school year.

With his new book — technically, it's his second published work — Schaefer aims to assist religious clergy with recognizing, mitigating, responding to, preparing for and recovering from various hazards, emergencies and disasters.

The book — it is available on Amazon and through Sola Publishing — draws on Schaefer's law enforcement and emergency management experience and on information from other experts in the field, according to a book description.
