Animal Friends Goes on Life-Saving Mission
More than 50 animals were rescued from being euthanized and went up for adoption Monday.

Animal Friends continued a 15-year New Year's Eve tradition this weekend as staff members and volunteers traveled around the area rescuing animals that otherwise would be euthanized by the end of the year.
The New Year's Rescue involved transferring animals from animal control facilities and other shelters to the Animal Friends shelter in Ohio Township, where the animals receive appropriate care.
The volunteers saved animals from shelters around Allegheny, Greene, Washington and Westmorland counties. Each rescued animal was vaccinated, bathed, groomed, evaluated medically and behaviorally, and spayed or neutered.

Aside from being treated to a primping session, these animals are given another chance at life. Friday's New Year's Eve Rescue had a Disney theme: Each rescued animal was given a Disney-oriented name.
All of the animals were put up for adoption Monday. For more information about Animal Friends or to inquire if any of these rescued animals may have a place in your home, visit its website or call 412-847-7000.
