Council Opts to Adopt Gas Drilling Regulations in June

A final vote by council has been postponed until June, with a public drilling hearing to be held prior.

After nearly two hours of public discussion at Monday night's meeting, council opted to adopt all Marcellus Shale gas drilling regulations at one time.

Feb. 28 was originally the set date for council's vote on the pending ordinance, however, the vote has been postponed until June; another public hearing will be required prior.

In other news, council authorized Township Manager Michael Silvestri to meet with property owners to work out maintenance plans for Lynwood Drive during the winter months, which was tabled from the previous meeting.

Council also approved the destruction of the annual list of obsolete records, including financial, police and administrative records.

Council authorized preparation of a maintenance agreement and resolution to accept the right of way in the Washington Circle plan, proposed by Washington Circle partners, Mr. Clackson and Mr. Erenberg.

Construction of a new road was also approved, requested by Investors Mark Acquisitions; Menichi Road in the Tuscany plan, in excess of 600 feet.

In Sugar Camp/Bebout Road bridge news, council approved a supplemental agreement for the redesign of the Arrowhead bridge structure, using a three-girder bridge. The cost for the redesign is $16,150. Additional costs are estimated at $55,000.

A modification to the Hamlet housing plan was approved by council, regarding the plan's request of a 12 percent grade for a 170-foot section of the road, to reduce grading and property disturbance. The Hamlet plan will have 51 lots and provide a second outlet for the plan. The maximum grade permitted is 10 percent, according to Silvestri. 

In other business, council did not provide relief on mechanical devices requested by a vending machine owner. Council did approve grading of an open space in Old Trail 10, with an understanding that it will still be an open space parcel.

Additionally, council authorized the purchase of two police cars, with approval of a third 4WD vehicle, once reviewed of alternatives.

Lastly, council postponed the hearing on a liquor license transfer for Giant Eagle, at their request.
