Endangered Birds Delay Water Tank Project

Pennsylvania American Water's plans to rehabilitate the Green Tree water tank, which serves a portion of Peters Township, has been put on hold after crews found a nest of peregrine falcons. 

The project will remain on hold until the nesting period is completed to avoid disturbing the falcons, according to the Post-Gazette. The estimated start date is in July.

"We're proud to be able to help in restoring this endangered population," spokesperson Josephine Posti told Patch.

The project will include inspecting, sandblasting and repainting the 2.5 million-gallon capacity elevated tank in Green Tree to extend its service life and protect water quality. No service interruptions are expected during the rehabilitation.
