Legendary Pittsburgh College & HS Basketball Coach Dies

A former Point Park University basketball coach and Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame member has died.

McMURRAY, PA — Jerry Conboy, a high school and college basketball coach for more than 50 years in southwestern Pennsylvania, has died.

Mr. Conboy had more than 800 wins in his coaching career, most notably at Point Park University from 1969 through 1989. He had 305 wins there, including 14 consecutive NAIA District 18 playoffs, 12 championship wins, two district championships and three NAIA national tournaments.

That's according to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, which inducted Mr. Conboy in 2017.

Mr. Conboy also served as Point Park's athletic director from 1973-89.

Before going to what was then called Point Park College, Mr. Conboy coached at South Hills Catholic High School from 1956-67 and compiled a 203-46 record. His teams won four league championships and two state championships.
