Police News: Drug Charges, Vandalism and Stolen Flags

July 3, 1:30 p.m.: Benjamin Falvella, 22, of Upper St. Clair will be charged with a DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia after police found him passed out in his vehicle facing north in the southbound turning lane on Washington Road at Gallery Drive, police said. Falvella admitted to being a heroin addict. He couldn't be immediately awakened, and later was taken to Canonsburg General Hospital to have blood drawn. Police found syringes and empty stamp bags with suspected heroin residue in the console, and an additional 31 empty stamp bags with suspected heroin residue in the driver's-side door.
July 4, 12:40 a.m.: Joshua John Beres, 19, of Canonsburg will be charged with six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop Monday, police said. A 17-year-old boy from Bridgeville will also be charged with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. The young men were passengers in a vehicle stopped in the 100 block of Gateshead Drive, police said. An equipment violation resulted in the stop, according to police. The officer detected an odor of suspected marijuana.
In the trunk of the vehicle police found a bong and two glass smoking pipes inside a clear bag, all with suspected marijuana residue, police said. Also found were an envelope with suspected marijuana residue, three stamp bags with suspected heroin residue, a small scale and an herb grinder, police said.

The driver was not charged.
July 5, 8:51 a.m.: Vandalism at McMurray Elementary was reported after 30 lightning rods, worth $30 a piece, were found broken off of the roof and left, police said.

July 5, 11:35 a.m.: 10 flags from the Garden of Five Flags (reserved for veterans) were reported ripped from their poles at Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery sometime between July 4 and 5, police said.
