Shape Up Your Skills with Driver Safety Course
Offered in two upcoming Saturday sessions, it's possible you may qualify for insurance rate discounts upon course completion.

Two Saturday sessions (Aug. 13 and Aug. 20) will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The eight-hour course will be taught in two four-hour sessions.Â
AARP Driver Safety courses help drivers stay current on the latest driving information and safe driving strategies, according to a release.

This specific course is designed to educate participants how best to reduce traffic violations, crashes and chances for injuries; update drivers' knowledge about relevant laws; and provide safe driving strategies to compensate for age-related changes that affect one's driving ability.
The topics to be covered include overall fitness and driving; challenges of city versus rural driving; tips for highway driving; understanding a vehicle's safety features; new vehicle technology; handling aggressive drivers; changing lanes; driving at intersections and maintaining proper distances.

Register for the course online through the AARP website at www.aarp.org, or at the library's circulation desk.
Cost of the course is $14; checks are made payable to AARP. If you register through the AARP website, you may pay by credit card.Â
AARP members receive a $2 discount.
FYI: Insurance companies in Pennsylvania offer discounts for insured clients 55 or older that have completed the AARP Driver Safety Program. It is recommended you consult your insurance company for their discount policy.Â
Although the driving course is geared toward drivers 50 and older, it can be taken by licensed drivers of all ages, and there are no tests.Â
