Welcome to Women's Health Rx!
Washington Hospital doctors say hello—and give you the skinny on what this column is all about (you).
Welcome to the first installment of Women’s Health Rx, a weekly look into what’s
important in women’s health care.
I’m Mary Parks Lamb, and I’m currently the medical director at the affiliated with The Washington Hospital, located at Krebs Center in McMurray.
In August I will be opening a new primary care practice, Lakeside Primary Care Center, in Waterdam Plaza in the .
I’ve been a family medicine physician for 14 years—I completed my residency at UPMC St. Margaret—and I’ve worked 10 years in primary care and four in urgent care. I love being a family medicine physician because of the variety—it's always refreshing and challenging—and I’m able to build relationships with patients across the lifespan.
As a woman and a mother, I know how important those relationships are. You want a primary care physician whom you trust.
I also grew up in the military health care system and moved frequently, so I never had a family doctor growing up. I always wish I had had one.
Working in urgent care, I wasn’t able to form those long-term relationships. I am excited to offer a progressive primary care practice with many modern electronic conveniences in a comfortable, warm atmosphere with excellent staff. Getting back to the roots of my training in primary care will be heartwarming for me and hopefully for my patients as well.
My partner in writing this column is Dr. Kate Simons from . Dr. Simons trained at Magee Women’s Hospital and is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. She treats women of all ages in all stages of reproductive health.
Together we plan to address a variety of women’s health topics, including osteoporosis, breast health, Pap smears, incontinence, family planning, menopause, diabetes, nutrition, weight management, cardiovascular disease, sports medicine and general wellness tips and topics.
When needed, we will enlist help from the extensive network of physicians and other health professionals available through the Washington Hospital Health System.
If there are any topics you’d be interested in learning more about, we welcome your suggestions. Please email them to jivanac@washingtonhospital.org.
Dr. Simons and I are very excited to have this opportunity every week to share with you some important health information and provide insight into current women’s health issues.
See you next week!
