Vehicle That Struck Beloved Philly DJ In Hit-And-Run IDed

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Police have released an image of the vehicle they say fatally struck a beloved DJ, then drove off.

The fatal strike happened at about 3:44 a.m. Dec. 20 on the 5600 block of Lancaster Avenue.

Police said a red or burgundy 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE with a license plate reading MXB-1835.struck June Rodriguez, 54. Rodriguez was a longtime DJ at Bob and Barbara's Lounge.

Police said Rodriguez was riding a bicycle east on Lancaster Avenue at that time, and the Jeep was going east as well.

The Jeep was following Rodriguez on the bike, and when Rodriguez went to turn left to head south on North 56th Street, the Jeep struck him, police said.

After striking Rodriguez, the vehicle swerved, then kept going west on Lancaster Avenue, according to police.

Rodriguez was taken to Lankenau Hospital, where he died 4:47 a.m.

Police said the Jeep is expected to have significant front-end damage, namely to the passenger-side fender and headlight area. The passenger-side headlight is believed to have been damaged in the crash.

The Jeep was last seen going west on the 6000 block of Lancaster Avenue.
