12K Without Power Wednesday Night In Chesco

Tuesday's storm dumped nearly 4 inches of rain in some areas of Chester County and left 63,300 customers without electricity.

CHESTER COUNTY, PA—Power was restored by Wednesday night to 80 percent of the 63,300 residents who were left in the dark during a powerful rainstorm Tuesday night into Wednesday morning that dumped nearly four inches of rain in Chester County.

By 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, a total of 12,066 PECO customers in Chester County were still without power.

Delaware County had 5,608 customers without power and Montgomery County had 1,379 people without power.

Kevin Beck, spokesman for the Chester County Emergency Services department, said PECO crews were working all day on restoring power.

“They are doing a great job,” Beck said. "Everything is still fluid."

In comparison, during Hurricane Sandy in October of 2012, there were 107,100 power outages in Chester County and 5 inches of rain.

While Tuesday’s storm did not rise close to the level of Hurricane Sandy, the damage and outages in Chester County were significant.

“We push for people to turn around and not drive into water,” Beck said.

There were no major reported injuries in Chester County, but there were a lot of frustrated motorists on the roads. The emergency center for 500 traffic calls and 1,000 calls from residents.

  • West Vincent: 357
  • Westtown: 671
  • Willistown: 1,256
