Another week - Another chance to catch some great, local outdoor shows

Our weekly look at the outdoor musical performances happening in our area...

Funny... Last weekend's BIG shows like Metallica at the Linc & Post Malone at the Bank didn't seem to worry abut the weather too much & went off without a hitch...

While OUR shows had to fight for the right...

As a reminder - The shows we letcha know about here are OUTDOORS... So if Mother Nature doesn't want to play nice, last-minute switches & relocations are always a possibility so be sure to check the websites of the shows involved for any last-minute changes to their schedules...

Anyway, the GOOD news is that Dean & Company was able to reschedule from last week so they are slated to perform TONIGHT instead, starting at 6:30 pm at 'Chill on the Hill' in Valley Creek Park (Route 29) in Malvern. The weather forecast is STILL not promising, but we're hoping the added warmth (?) this week & the gentler pecip will allow thing to work out - Hey, it rained at Woodstock a bit & that turned out to be LEGENDARY! Also remember the current road construction there at Route 29 might make driving a little tricky as well for some... Make sure you factor all of those things into your plans so you can arrive on time & thoroughly enjoy this amazing group!

Dean & Company came together on a whim for a one-off performance of Grateful Dead music performed by real Grateful Dead fans. Dean has assembled this lineup by allowing the universe and destiny to reveal the perfect combination for this project. Although primarily showcasing the songs of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, Dean & Company also features the music of alternate classic rock bands and figures, as well as some reggae and soul music. They can be found performing in and around the Philadelphia and tri-state area for Deadheads of all ages. Not sure if local fav Matt Santry will still be opening the gig, but we're hoping so since he & his band are so darn good... We shall see if they can get the show in this time around, but HEY! We can always use the extra rain; right?!?

Two other venerable venues are getting back into the swing of things this week as well - The first is the Twilight Concert Series that is held at the library pavilion in Bryn Mawr... These shows have been going on since about 2007 and have never disappointed! Things kick off with the uber-talented Chuck Prophet & His Cumbia Shoes with the equally talented Jesse Ruben opening...

Prophet is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who has created a handful of impressive solo albums when he isn't busy collaborating with some of the most respected figures in roots rock. A songwriter with a naturalistic sense of storytelling and drawing characters, and a melodic sense that has the impact of rock with the nuance of country, blues, and folk, he's been releasing solid solo albums since 1990, when he released his first solo LP, Brother Aldo. Prior to that, he was a key member of the rough-edged Paisley Underground band Green on Red, who had a small cult following in the United States and a significantly larger one overseas, and in between solo efforts, he worked as a sideman, collaborator, or producer for Alejandro Escovedo, Kelly Willis, Warren Zevon, Cake, Kim Richey, and many more. 1993's atmospheric Balinese Dancer, 1997's autobiographical Homemade Blood, 2004's Age of Miracles, and 2012's loving homage to San Francisco Temple Beautiful are examples of his eclectic spirit. In his latest iteration & with the release of 2024's Wake the Dead, Prophet celebrates his love of Latin American cumbia. It's music that is characterized by a lively, upbeat rhythm and often features instruments like guitars, accordions, bass guitars, and percussion. While Cumbia is Colombian in origin, it has spread globally and influenced various styles of music.

Opener Jesse Rubin is a superb singer/songwriter whose music has been streamed more than 40 million times. He has been featured on The TODAY Show, MTV, CNN, and NPR. Jesse is also the founder of The We Can Project, a service-learning and growth mindset program for elementary and middle school students.

The second series cranking it up this week is out in Eagleview (near Lionville) with their concert series that takes place just about every Tuesday evening at their Towne Center (that's Restaurant Row for most of us)... It's been happening for over twenty (!) years & has become a go-to for folks to enjoy week after week... They kick off their shows on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:00 pm with Entrain - This jam band from Martha's Vineyard is a multifaceted ensemble who unites to produce music that melds a number of styles, from funk to klezmer, creating a kind of ethnic and musicological soup onstage. Entrain reaches across more genres than most jam bands, but still manage to have an improvisational quality to their music. Their live show is what really shines & if you haven't experienced them before, you really should take this opportunity to remedy that situation... Special guest Seth Walker, an electric blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter opens the evening...

Hope to see you out there SOMEwhere...
