George Washington celebrated his 46th birthday in February 1778 in a house that is still standing in the park.

“It has been said that Valley Forge was the first place George Washington celebrated his birthday,” Dave Lawrence, park guide said in a video, standing outside the house.

Lawrence said Washington’s Army was not doing well at first Valley Forge, noting that he was losing supplies and there were close to 2,000 deaths.

In the end, Washington survived the encampment at Valley Forge, and the war moved in the right direction with the French providing troops and supplies to the Continental Army.
