Downingtown Students Win National Merit Scholarships

Students from Downingtown West And East high schools and Downingtown Stem Academy were awarded national merit scholarships.

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced winners of its corporate-sponsored scholarships, and seven are Conestoga High School students.

About 840 high school seniors have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by 107 corporations, foundations and other business organizations.

  • Kushi P. Amara, Chester Springs, National Merit Northeaster University Scholarship. Plans to study engineering.
  • Kushi P. Amara, Downingtown, National Merit Northeastern University. Plans to study engineering.
  • Sophie Wu, Downingtown, National Merit University of Maryland. Plans to study computer science.

Downingtown High School West:

  • Amanda C. Cleary, Downingtown, National Merit University of Utah. Plans to study computer science.

Downingtown High School East:

  • Parsh Goel, National Merit University of Maryland. Plans to study computer science.
  • Rohan K. Kyada, National Merit University of Maryland. Plans to study computer science.

Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the Finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met the criteria of their scholarship sponsors.
Individuals are honored for exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $1,000 to $10,000 per year.

Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000. Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.
