A great week for some music outdoors!
Tired of the Kimberton Fair? (NEVER!) But here are some other outdoor options for you to consider this week...
It's Kimberton Fair week here in our area & while that (along with the donuts) should be our main focus for the week, there are also some great outdoor music opportunities for which you should be aware...
The lions-share of those this week are over in King of Prussia at their Concerts Under the Stars series starting TONIGHT with the High Kings...
Thee Kings consist of Finbarr Clancy, Darren Holden, Brian Dunphy and Paul O’ Brien & these guys play thirteen instruments between them, creating their unique sound and atmosphere. Their 2008 self-titled debut album reached number two on the world Billboard Music chart. Their second studio album ‘Memory Lane’ was released in February 2010 and after a successful Irish tour the album went platinum. They followed ‘Memory Lane’ with the ‘Live in Ireland’ album which received critical acclaim as it showcased the energy that the band brings to their live shows. The High Kings continue to set the bar extremely high for Irish Folk bands across the world and are widely regarded to be at the forefront of the genre. Now, in 2023 after a 15 year journey The High Kings continue to break records selling out venues across the world to their ever-growing army of loyal fans.

Tomorrow in King of Prussia, two-time GRAMMY Award nominee Grace Potter is set to appear! She has been hailed as “one of the greatest living voices in rock today” (SPIN) & has released five critically acclaimed studio albums, including 2019’s Daylight, which was nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Rock Album, toured and collaborated with some of the music industry’s best, including The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Chris Stapleton and Kenny Chesney (their collaboration earned Grace her first Grammy nomination), and has played nearly every major music festival, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo, in addition to launching Burlington’s Grand Point North Festival.
On May 30th, she released her latest album, Medicine. Recorded in 2008, the T Bone Burnett-produced LP captured Potter at a moment of profound metamorphosis, then wound up shelved. Potter has now joined forces with Hollywood Records to unearth those recordings from deep in the vaults and release Medicine: a powerhouse album that’s equal parts archival gem and thrilling new addition to her extraordinary catalog.

Karina Rykman will be opening for Grace...
Friday will feature a FREE show with Tom Hamilton along with the Katie Henry Band - Hamilton is a songwriter, musician, and producer best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist for the bands Brothers Past, American Babies, Ghost Light, Joe Russo's Almost Dead, Bill Kreutzmann's Billy & the Kids, and Electron. Katie Henry is a blues rock singer, guitarist, pianist and songwriter currently signed to Ruf Records. Her album, On My Way, reached number six on the Billboard Top Blues Albums Chart.
Finally, on Sunday, it's a twin bill with two legendary musicians taking the stage! One is Jerry Harrison - Best known as the keyboard player and occasional guitarist of Talking Heads during the 1980s, he had also recorded several solo albums while on occasional hiatus from Talking Heads in the '80s, but when the band disintegrated in the late '80s, Harrison resumed his busy production schedule, working with some hot alternative acts. His solo work can be described as loose funk-rock grooves and an open-ended song structure... Truly an artist that needs to be seen live to fully appreciate his musical mastery...
The second artist on this bill is Adrian Belew & is also no slouch in the 'incredible musician' book!
One of the most unusual and forward-thinking guitarists of his time, Belew has played with some of rock's biggest names (Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, King Crimson, and many more) while also attracting a die-hard following for his solo work. Belew incorporates a broad range of sounds and effects in which he mimics animal noises or mechanical rumblings alongside his deft guitar picking, making his own recognizable style that's fluid and expressive.
Both Harrison & Belew performed on the Talking Heads seminal recording Remain in Light back in the day & this show will feature that superb music throughout the evening - This one is a MUST SEE event!

Phew! ...but let's not forget the Bryn Mawr Twilight Concert series where legendary singer-songwriters Cheryl Wheeler & David Wilcox are set to appear on Friday, July 25th...
Known for her comic as well emotionally intense songs, folk singer/songwriter Cheryl Wheeler was raised in Timonium, Maryland, and began playing the guitar and ukulele as a child. She first performed professionally at a local restaurant, but soon graduated to clubs in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., areas. From there, her talent has taken her to just about every stage & venue found through the world! A first-class storyteller and an incredible talent, Wheeler's music will keep you mesmerized and entertained throughout the evening...
David Wilcox has long been a quiet force in American folk music - a musician’s musician, a writer’s writer, and a seeker whose gift lies in making the personal feel universal. A string of acclaimed albums refined his reputation as a songwriter who knows how to say hard things in soft, lasting ways. Over the years he’s shared stages and collaborations with artists like Shawn Colvin, Patty Larkin, and John Gorka. Wilcox’s influence runs deep, especially among younger artists trying to build something real, and his music still resonates. His songs remain a rare kind of company. Not flashy. Just deeply, generously alive.
